Top County Fairs Near Watertown to Enjoy This Summer

Up in the North Country, county fairs are a summer highlight, and a couple of great ones are still ahead of us this season. Expect midway rides, harness racing, demolition derbies, and that friendly small-town welcome the region is known for. Here's what's coming up.

Gouverneur & St. Lawrence County Fair (Gouverneur): August 4 to 9

A North Country tradition since 1859, the fair in Gouverneur wears two hats: it's both the 167th Gouverneur Fair and the 174th St. Lawrence County Fair. Best of all, admission to the grounds is free (you just pay a few dollars to park). Come for the Coleman Brothers midway, harness racing, a demolition derby, livestock shows, and live music, and bring the whole family without breaking the bank.

Franklin County Fair (Malone): August 8 to 16

Way up near the Canadian border in Malone, the Franklin County Fair is celebrating its 176th year and going big on entertainment. This year's music lineup includes the Gin Blossoms with Spin Doctors and rock legends Great White with special guest Sebastian Bach, alongside the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo, a demolition derby, and the Black Cat Hell Drivers stunt show. Kids 12 and under get in the gate free, and the big grandstand concerts are ticketed separately.
